5 Things That Need to Happen in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'
By Hannah Wigandt
The name and trailer for Episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker, have been released and fans can probably expect some pretty cool things. Since The Rise of Skywalker will close out the nine movie Skywalker saga, all of our questions have to be answered and so far that's a demanding list. So here we complied a list of the top five things that need to happen in The Rise of Skywalker.
1. Luke Skywalker's force ghost.
Mark Hamill has said he will appear in The Rise of Skywalker. But being dead, the only way he could return is if he's a force ghost. The Hollywood Reporter says it's just speculation at this point, but we do hear Luke talking in the trailer. He says, "We've passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight." Could this be Luke's ghost talking to Rey just like Obi-Wan came to Luke in Return of the Jedi?
2. Rey and Kylo Ren confrontation.
The last time Rey and Kylo Ren saw each other they were fighting together and then not agreeing with which side of the force to be on. Kylo wanted Rey to join him in The Last Jedi, but she refused. According to a reliable source who found leaks for the upcoming movie, called JediPaxis, Kylo Ren could be dealing with his feelings for Rey and trying to rekindle their relationship.
As we saw in the trailer, though, it doesn't look like they are getting along as it would appear that Rey jumps on top of Kylo Ren's ship gearing up to fight.
3. Rey's real parents.
Ever since reports started that JJ Abrams would be "correcting" Rian Johnson's mistakes from The Last Jedi, fans have speculated whether or not we will get to see who Rey's parents really are. In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren says to Rey that her parents were no one. The secret of Rey's parentage was such a huge deal for fans that when the big reveal came they thought it was a little anti-climatic. Apparently Johnson is okay with Abrams changing who Rey's parents are.
4. Palpatine returns.
At the end of the trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, fans heard the evil laugh of Emperor Palpatine, that sent a shiver up our spines. Somehow the Sith Lord is back, according to JJ Abrams, who confirmed the rumor. Maybe he comes back as a force ghost.
5. Leia and Kylo Ren reunion.
Now with her partner, Han Solo, and her twin brother, Luke, Leia has no one except her son Ben Solo, or Kylo Ren, as living family. Even though we saw Rey reunite with the princess, it would still be pretty cool if Leia got to at least talk with her son one last time. Kylo needs to turn back into Ben Solo and help his mother defeat the First Order.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
