A 'Gossip Girl' Reboot Might Actually Be Happening
By Natalie Zamora
Fan-favorite series Gossip Girl became an instant teen classic when it premiered on the CW in 2007. Since its end in 2012, fans have still been obsessively re-watching thanks to Netflix, and have been hoping for some sort of reunion or possible reboot to come. Well, it appears this isn't out of the question at all.
According to TV Line, CW President Mark Pedowitz discussed a possible reboot for the beloved series at the TV Critics' Association press tour on Thursday, confirming there have been talks about it.
"There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet,” Pedowitz stated. "I don’t know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and [exec producers] Josh [Schwartz] and Steph[anie Savage], 'cause you don’t want to do anything without them."
While this obviously isn't confirmation a reboot is in the works, Pedowitz's words are definitely more hopeful than what Schwartz told E! News back in 2016. The producer said of the possibility at the time, "We haven't really explored some of those conversations. Maybe, I don't know. We haven't really thought about it." He also acknowledged how much the internet and social media has changed since the series. "The world has become Gossip Girl now. ... Now literally everyone is Gossip Girl," he said.
We're not sure how the series would come back, but we do already know that two of the main stars, Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf) and Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), aren't exactly on the same page about it. Lively has been very open to returning to the Upper East Side, while Meester isn't too thrilled about the idea. However, she was sure to clarify to Vanity Fair in 2017, "I don’t want to say, 'No, never…'"
We're sure there's ways to go in rebooting Gossip Girl, if they do at all, but we're just here to say we 100% support it.
