Good news, Star Wars fans! Next time your professor tries to dock you points for using lingo from a galaxy far, far away in your essays, you’ll have the Oxford English Dictionary to back you up.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the OED has welcomed a list of jargon from the franchise to its very official pages. Among the collection of the words is “Jedi,” which the OED has defined as, “In the fictional universe of the Star Wars films: a member of an order of heroic, skilled warrior monks who are able to harness the mystical power of the Force.”

Another new addition is the word “Padawan,” which is now formally defined as, “An apprentice Jedi.” And the OED couldn’t add “Jedi” without also adding “lightsabre” (excuse the British spelling), which means, “A weapon resembling a sword, but having a destructive beam of light in place of a blade.”

So, next time your friends tell you that you talk about Star Wars too much, just tell them you are simply expanding your OED vocabulary.
