The smart and empathetic queer rom-com The Half of it was a breath of fresh air in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown. Fans of the Netflix hit instantly fell in love with Alexxis Lemire, who plays Aster Flores, the heartthrob at the center of the film. Now Alexxis herself has taken to Instagram to share her own realizations about self worth and beauty during quarantine.

Alexxis opened up to her followers about how the lockdown has helped her feel confident without makeup. “So lemme get real hear for a min. I think for a long time I really felt like I NEEDED makeup to feel pretty or good about myself,” the star wrote alongside a photo in which she showed off her natural skin. “I wouldn’t leave the house without it. Something quarantine has helped me with is being comfortable in my own skin and not feeling like makeup is what makes me beautiful. To me, kindness and empathy are what makes a person beautiful.”

Her followers jumped in with words of support. “You are beautiful anyway,” wrote one. “I love the message you give, you are a person with a very beautiful soul,” responded another.

Alexxis isn’t the only celebrity sharing makeup-free photos right now. As the pandemic unfortunately continues, stars have taken to social media to stay connected with fans. With so many stuck at home, the incentive to get dressed up and made up isn’t what it used to be, and it’s given everyone some time to reflect on how they see themselves with and without makeup. We’ve even caught glimpses of Kylie Jenner going for a more natural look. Don’t worry, though, she’s certainly not about to give up full glam for good.
