An 'Abducted in Plain Sight' Movie Could Star Millie Bobby Brown

True crime junkies were in for a doozy when Netflix added documentary Abducted in Plain Sight earlier this year. While the film debuted in 2017, the streaming service’s vast audience has created buzz around the case again, which saw 12-year-old Jan Broberg get abducted by a family friend in the 1970s. What occurs in the doc after is a disheartening series of events involving Jan’s whole family, complete with yet another kidnapping. Thankfully, Jan made it out okay enough to tell her story, which might not end with just this documentary.
Broberg, now 56 years old, recently told TMZ that a movie deal might be in the works, with her wanting an even more in-depth story to be told. “We have had some preliminary conversations, some offers, some people who are interested in making the story into a feature film or a series of some sort,” she explained. “We’re just very cautiously looking at the possibilities and options that might be available. I want the story told correctly and in a way that will help the most number of people.”
And while no deals have been made just yet, Broberg has her eye on someone to play her: Millie Bobby Brown. Although she couldn’t remember her by name, she stated, “That girl who is on Stranger Things—Eight? Is her name Eight on the show? She’s a great, great young actress and she’s tiny. It has to be a very small girl.”
Broberg’s ambitions don’t stop there. For the role of her kidnapper and rapist, Robert “B” Berchtold, she’s eyeing the likes of Ryan Gosling or Christian Bale. Her hopes may be high, but considering how wildly disturbing of a story it is, it’s only fitting for it to become a scripted movie.
Abducted in Plain Sight is streaming on Netflix now.
