Michelle Pfeiffer just endorsed an actress as the new Catwoman, and she would know best, considering she played the iconic character in the 1992 Tim Burton film Batman Returns.

At the premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, according to ScreenRant, Variety asked Pfeiffer if fans could see her reprising the DC role, to which she said, "I would be surprised." But she didn't totally squash the idea, adding, "Who knows? Anything can happen." When the reporter asked if her co-star Elle Fanning could do it, Pfeiffer said, "She would be awesome."

Although it hasn't been confirmed that Catwoman will appear in the upcoming film, Matt Reeves' The Batman, the role would be a new style for Fanning. The 21-year-old actress (and younger sister to Dakota Fanning) captured viewers' hearts with her performances in Teen Spirit, We Bought a Zoo, and the Maleficent series, where she plays Aurora, the sweet, gentle princess raised by Angelina Jolie's titular character.

The role of Catwoman, a.k.a. her daytime persona, Selena Kyle, would be a departure for Fanning, but if Pfeiffer thinks it's a good idea, it probably is!

Apart from its lead in Robert Pattinson, The Batman has yet to announce its cast. Rumors have been swirling about Jonah Hill joining in an undisclosed villain role, yet nothing has been confirmed yet. The highly-anticipated film will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
