Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is due to premiere this Friday, and, in anticipation of audience reception, critics have reviewed the film and have given it a surprisingly high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film, featuring Margot Robbie as the DC villain, tells the story of Quinn's breakup from the Joker, leaving her a vulnerable target in a violent world. But instead of being beaten down, Harley meets some unexpected allies in other women and they go on to dominate, introducing viewers to characters like Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya.

Birds of Prey currently holds an 87% on the reviewing website. Many critics claim they were pleasantly surprised by the film's departure from Suicide Squad and said rather than just a sequel to the earlier DC movie, it offers a totally independent narrative. Christy Lemire from RogerEbert.com writes:

"By detailing the character's origin story and establishing her own franchise, director Cathy Yan pulls off the tricky feat of blending elaborate action sequences with compelling character development."

Despite this positive reception, CosmicBookNews reports that ticket sales for the film are still very low worldwide.

It's also entirely possible that once audiences hear of the promising score on Rotten Tomatoes, people will flock to the opening night of Birds of Prey... or the rating will simply decrease.
