'Captain Marvel Set for $153 Million at Domestic Box Office Opening Weekend

Captain Marvel just made history as Marvel's first standalone film with a female lead. And just like DC's Wonder Woman, the movie is a box office hit.
Captain Marvel is soaring to the top of the box office and is slated for a $153 million box office opening weekend performance.
While it is just the seventh-largest opening weekend for an MCU film, it's performed better than Iron Man 3, which eventually grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide.
The $153 million domestic performance also marks the second-highest opening weekend for a standalone MCU character debut, behind only Academy Award-nominated Black Panther, which it has already surpassed with a worldwide $455 million opening weekend.
Many fans believe Captain Marvel deserves its incredible box office performance.
But despite all of the money the Brie Larson-led film will bring to Marvel, the studio is likely not too pleased with the plethora of mixed reviews it has received thus far, as it has already become a polarizing film among fans and critics.
The next MCU film to hit theaters is the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame, which will likely feature Carol Danvers aiding the Avengers in their battle against Thanos.
