Chelsea Houska Faced Backlash From 'Teen Mom' Fans for Not Posting About George Floyd
Teen Mom fans are not very happy with Chelsea Houska.
Following the May 25 murder of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer, fans think the reality star could have done more to use her platform like other big-name celebrities are doing. Over the weekend, Chelsea posted a fashion video trying on a recent haul of clothes she received. However, it wasn't the content fans were hoping to see from the MTV personality.
As reported by The Sun, Chelsea began receiving backlash pretty quickly. "So you literally aren't going to say anything?" one person asked in the comments. "Imagine having a platform to voice concerns that are going on in with today's world (the same world your children are growing up in) and using it to post about clothes. #yourprivilegeisshowing #cancelled." another comment read.
Another wrote that they were so "disappointed" in her, they unfollowed her.
Chelsea did eventually speak out, though many felt she was late to the game, and was only doing so because she got called out. "I'm laying here in bed, thinking about my sleeping children," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "And my heart aches. I will never know what it's like to be worried about them solely because of the color of their skin. i may never experience what you are going through but I see you, I understand you. I want to do better, raise my children to be better... and make a difference."
Meanwhile, fellow Teen Mom star Cheyenne Floyd has been especially outspoken about George Floyd's passing, even calling out her co-stars for not speaking out. Here's to hoping everyone, regardless of how large or small their platforms are, take a page out of her book.
