'Crazy Rich Asians' Director Jon M. Chu is Trying to Make a 'Star Wars' Rose Tico Series for Disney+
People have had a lot to say about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker since its release last week, and one of the biggest criticisms has been about the treatment of Rose Tico, the character played by Kelly Marie Tran. The beloved role was basically left out of the final installment of the saga, getting only 76 seconds of screen time throughout the entire film. As a response to the perceived mistreatment of Rose, Twitter has exploded with the hashtag #RoseTicoDeservedBetter.
And now, the trend has caught the attention of more than just fans. ComicBook.com reports that Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu called out Disney and Lucasfilm this week by tweeting support of Rose having her own Disney+ series. He wrote, “Ok @disneyplus. Put me in coach. Let’s make this series happen. #RoseTicoDeservedBetter @starwars.”
While the future of Star Wars films is ambiguous for now, the studio has made it clear they will focusing a lot of their time and attention to the live-action and animated series on their new streaming service. The success of The Mandalorian, the franchise’s first live-action show, has solidified this plan.
Let’s hope that Disney checks their Twitter so we can see Rose kick some butt on the small screen.
