'Dark Phoenix' Tracking for Worst Opening Weekend in X-Men Franchise

Dark Phoenix is officially out in theaters today, and while the characters might be strong as ever, it seems that the film won’t have much power at the box office.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest X-Men film is expected to debut in the range of $50 million, which would be the lowest debut record in the franchise's history. 2013's The Wolverine currently holds the lowest position with its $53.1 million opening weekend.

This comes as no big shock after the first reviews of the film started to surface a few days ago. Dark Phoenix currently sits at 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 67% audience score. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the lowest rated of the X-Men film (until now) with a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 58% score from audiences.

Though the reviews have been less than ideal, the star-studded cast has been supportive of one another. Sophie Turner posted a picture yesterday of herself and her cast members, including Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender.

We will see if audiences disagree with critics' reviews by the end of the weekend.
