David Harbour Points Out He's Now the Only 'Black Widow' Star Without an Oscar Nomination
David Harbour might be a winner in the eyes of Stranger Things fans, but he hasn’t quite earned his keep with the Academy.
Nominations were announced this week for the 92nd Academy Awards, revealing that Harbour’s Black Widow co-stars, Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh, would be in the running. Johansson is up for Best Actress for Marriage Story as well as Best Supporting Actress for JoJo Rabbit, while Pugh is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Little Women. This, paired with Rachel Weisz's win at the Academy Awards in 2006 for The Constant Gardener (along with her nomination last year for The Favourite), make Harbour the only one without an Oscar nod.
Keeping with his always light-hearted demeanor, the Jim Hopper actor took some time to poke fun at himself for this fact when Pugh took to Instagram to share her excitement about her nomination. She posted a series of pictures of herself in bed, getting the news on the phone. She captioned it, “Before the moment.. the exact moment. #nominated #foraf**kingoscar!!!!!!”
Harbour, who plays Alexei a.k.a. Red Guardian in the new Marvel film, hilariously commented on Pugh’s post, “Holy s**t Batman. Congrats. I’m the only one in [Black Widow] without an Oscar nomination. Just to make it about me for a sec.”
Followers couldn’t help but support the 44-year-old actor, sending their encouragement in the replies. One fan even commented, “It’s okay David you can be the new Leonardo DiCaprio and there’s nothing wrong with that,” comparing the Hellboy actor to DiCaprio, who was nominated six times before finally winning an Oscar for The Revenant in 2016.
I’m sure we will see Harbour holding the little gold man one of these days.
