Emilia Clarke Recalls Being Told to Do Nude Scenes So She Wouldn't Disappoint 'Game of Thrones' Fans
The first season of Game of Thrones infamously included many nude scenes, and for Daenerys Targaryen star Emilia Clarke, it unfairly followed her around for projects to come.
Business Insider reports that the 33-year-old actress recently sat down with Dax Shepard for his podcast, Armchair Experts, to promote her new film Last Christmas. In the interview, Clarke revealed that on sets for other undisclosed projects, she was pressured to do nude scenes she hadn’t agreed to. She explained, “I'm a lot more savvy with what I'm comfortable with, and what I am OK with doing. I've had fights on set before where I'm like, 'No, the sheet stays up', and they're like, 'You don't wanna disappoint your Game of Thrones fans.' And I'm like, 'F**k you.’”
Clarke also explained that, as a new actor during the first season of Game of Thrones, she often felt that she didn’t have the right to argue with showrunners about the nudity. She recalled:
“Regardless of there being nudity or not, I would have spent that first season thinking I'm not worthy of requiring anything, I'm not worthy of needing anything at all ... Whatever I'm feeling is wrong, I'm gonna cry in the bathroom and then I'm gonna come back and we're gonna do the scene and it's gonna be completely fine.”
Clarke disclosed that it was her on-screen husband, Khal Drogo actor Jason Momoa, who gave her the confidence to stand up for herself. The Solo: A Star Wars Story actress explained, “It was definitely hard, which is why the scenes, when I got to do them with Jason, were wonderful, because he was like, 'No, sweetie, this isn't OK.' And I was like, 'Ohhhh.'"
Though it might be difficult for Clarke to share, it is wonderful that she is sharing her experiences so that it may help other young actors in the same position.
