Emilia Clarke Was Almost in 'Iron Man 3'
By Ryan Carroll
Emilia Clarke has made a number of appearances in entertainment news lately, not only because of the controversial finale to Game of Thrones but also because of her admission that she almost appeared in 50 Shades of Grey. Adding to this onslaught of news is the revelation that she almost appeared in Marvel’s Iron Man 3. Though there isn’t much information on who she was set to play, Drew Pearce, the film’s writer, did offer a small hint at her presence.
On Instagram, Pearce shared a picture of a name card from the table read of Iron Man 3, during which he was reading for JARVIS, according to CinemaBlend. In the caption, he referenced the experience of reading with the film’s stars, saying: “Downey, Cheadle, Emilia Clarke (long story, the script changed)... all vaguely terrifying.”
Pearce offered no more information on who Clarke might have played in the film, though did make a few coy remarks in the comments section of the post. When one fan noted that Clarke had auditioned to play Sharon Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and theorized that she may have been playing the character in Iron Man 3, the writer responded with, “Good guess, but no.”
The revelation has boggled the minds of many, as there are only a few major female characters whom Clarke could have played in the film. Some, such as CinemaBlend, have theorized she was originally slated to play a different version of Maya Hansen, or perhaps an entirely different character who was cut from the story.
Regardless, it’s always interesting to see what could have been from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But considering Clarke’s roles in Game of Thrones, Terminator: Genisys, and Solo: A Star Wars Story, we’d say she did just fine for herself.
