Every 'Teen Mom' Star Who Has Been Fired by MTV
Teen Mom premiered on MTV in 2009, and 11 years later the franchise is still going strong. However, success includes dealing with the bumps along the way, and by bumps, I mean scandals and controversies of epic proportions. The network has had to fire several Teen Mom stars throughout its run, usually following outrageous or deplorable behavior. We've compiled a list of people who have been given the pink slip by MTV, and without further ado, let's get started.
1. Farrah Abraham
Farrah Abraham initially gained sympathy from fans on 16 and Pregnant when the father of her baby, Derek Underwood, died in a car accident before their daughter Sophia was born. However, over the years, she began to make adult content. In Oct, 2017, she was fired from the show, with MTV claiming that Farrah's choice to return to the adult entertainment industry was in conflict with the overall message of Teen Mom. She has since been at the center of various controversies, including being arrested for battery and resisting arrest, posting photos of her daughter in underwear, and accusations of animal cruelty.
2. Jenelle Evans and David Eason
This one is a doozy, guys. In 2019, after ten years, Jenelle Evans was fired by MTV after her husband David Eason, beat and murdered her dog. Following the incident, the mom-of-three briefly lost custody of her children and her mother Barbara reportedly would not let Jenelle's son Jace back to his mother's house. Jenelle's firing comes about a year after David was dropped by the network for posting homophobic tweets. Yikes.
Although Jenelle initially announced her split from David months after the shooting, going so far as getting a restraining order against him and reportedly filing for divorce, the couple decided to give their marriage another chance. It makes a lot of sense that the couple was fired. After all, the Teen Mom franchise is supposed to encourage young people to make better decisions for their future—promotion of animal cruelty, abusive relationships, and discrimination has no place on television.
3. Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie Standifer
Dad Ryan Edwards has struggled with addiction and sobriety for years. Although he appeared on Season 8 of Teen Mom OG, he and his wife Mackenzie Standifer were previously fired from the franchise following his 2019 arrest for possession of heroin and theft. Ryan is obviously a bad influence and was not the kind of person MTV would want to give a wide platform, so their decision to bring him back to the show doesn't make a whole lot of sense for viewers.
4. Taylor Selfridge
In recent news, Teen Mom OG's Taylor Selfridge was fired this month after racist tweets came to light in the wake of current nationwide protests for Black Lives Matter. Selfridge has appeared on the reality series from 2019 to 2020 with boyfriend Cory Wharton and his ex, Cheyenne Floyd. Cheyenne was so concerned with Taylor's comments that she actually addressed the remarks during an Aug. 2019 episode of the show. "At the time, because I was younger, I wasn't thinking it was anything negative. I thought, 'Oh, well this is funny,' or something like that, but it's not," Selfridge explained at the time. Too little, too late Taylor! "MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice," the network explained.
If fans of Teen Mom had it their way, they'd like to add Amber Portwood to this list sooner than later. She has consistently demonstrated poor decision making, such as being arrested for possession of a controlled substance, violating her probation, struggling with anger management, drug use, and domestic violence.
