It's been a lengthy wait for any significant developments on the standalone Flash film Warner Bros. has been working on for over two years. Now, it looks like the expected star of the DC film is taking matters into his own hand.

Though writing/directing duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been on board the project since Jan. 2018, including recently being given the responsibility to write the film, Barry Allen actor Ezra Miller is reportedly giving it a go at writing his own script for the movie.

With help from legendary comic writer Grant Morrison, Miller is writing his own "darker" version, which conflicts with Daley and Goldstein's light-hearted vision for the film.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the decision to write his own script is in part due to Miller's push to stay on as the speedster superhero. According to the report, if Warner Bros. chooses against Miller's version, the actor could part ways with the project.

A completed script and Warner Bros.' decision must come quick, because according to one insider who spoke with the outlet, Miller’s holding deal on the Flash expires in May.

This a very rare move for a starring actor, but Miller is known for going against the grain. This latest development has already been a polarizing topic among DC fans.

One thing no one can deny, however, is that Ezra's move is insanely bold.

This whole situation can either go incredibly well or incredibly bad. Miller is famously unpredictable, so we honestly don't know what his script will look like. But with the help of a comic book veteran like Morrison, there's a good chance it turns out to be awesome.
