Frank Oz Calls All 'The Last Jedi' Hate 'Horse Crap'

It's no secret that many Star Wars fans did not like The Last Jedi very much, despite it doing well at the box office. While the cast and crew have brushed off harsh criticism, Frank Oz, of all people, has a few choice words for all the haters out there.

Oz, who has played Yoda since 1980 in The Empire Strikes Back, thinks the biggest complaints stem from people who were hoping to get exactly what they wanted from the story, instead of what the creators wanted.

“I love [The Last Jedi],” Oz said at a panel during SXSW this week. “All the people who don’t like this Jedi thing is just horse crap. It’s about expectations. The movie didn’t fill their expectations. But as filmmakers, we’re not here to fulfill people’s expectations.”

This is hardly the first time Oz has spoken out on the backlash the most recent Skywalker Saga film faced.

"Yeah, there’s a whole backlash. I couldn’t understand that whole backlash. I didn’t get it," Oz said to Collider in March 2018. "I thought it was a great piece of work. I never understood that backlash. I’m somebody that works with the script, and if the script is there and I believe the script is organic and right for the moment and the character, then that’s kind of all I think about. I don’t think about extra powers or anything, I just go with it. I just don’t consider that really."

Despite getting extensive criticism, director Rian Johnson is moving forward with the franchise, as he's set to direct a new trilogy of films.
