Apparently, fans of Friends weren't very friendly when the series aired. And the biggest target of their animosity was a love-interest of Ross', the paleontologist, Julie, from Season 2.

The tumultuous relationship between Ross and Rachel kept everyone on the edge of their seats for basically the entire 10 seasons, and short-lived flings got in the way. One of these flings emerged on scene when Rachel was waiting at the airport with flowers in hand, ready to declare her love to Ross. Except he arrived with the sweet and lovable Julie, a former grad-student classmate who he met in China.

Julie was played by actress Lauren Tom, who said fans weren't just bummed out, they were cruel during live filmings. She said to Today, as reported by Hello Giggles: “I wasn’t prepared for the amount of venom I was about to receive in a live audience where they actually booed my character. And, of course, I was trying very hard not to get my feelings hurt. So I had to get used to that."

Tom pointed out that it wasn't her they hated but anyone blocking the love between Rachel and Ross. She continued, "But I did understand intellectually that, you know, the audience was meant to be rooting for Rachel. Even I was rooting for Rachel, on some level, ’cause I was a fan of the show."

The cast, however, was very welcoming towards her. Tom shared that her first day of filming happened to be her birthday, explaining, "So they all took me out to lunch. It was very, very fancy, and it was so, so sweet of them to welcome me in that way.”

We all wanted Ross and Rachel to end up together, but come on! Poor Julie and poor Lauren Tom. Nobody deserves that!
