The character Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones was known for telling it like it is, but unfortunately, Kristofer Hivju, the actor who brought the hilarious Wildling to life on the series, is keeping his lips sealed about a possible alternate ending to the HBO sensation.

Winter is Coming reports that the 40-year-old Norwegian actor recently attended the British Film Institute, alongside Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark) and Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy), to promote the upcoming home video release of the final season of the show. During an interview with Metro, the Fate of the Furious actor revealed that he was as surprised as fans were at the ending of the series, saying:

“The funny thing is after season seven I had my theories, fans had theirs, everybody the cast had their theories so there were thousands of theories. To choose one path would be difficult to say but there were many things I didn’t see coming; there was the element of surprise which I liked.”

He also admitted that part of his shock came from the fact that the cast had shot a second ending at one point during production. He stated, “Well, we shot an alternative ending. That was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that.” When he was prodded a bit for more for details, the famous redhead put his foot down. He said, laughing, “I won’t tell you! But it was fun.”

Rumors did circulate during the time of filming for the final season that the showrunners shot multiple fake scenes to get people off their trail. While it is likely that this alternate ending was one of those endeavors, we can’t help but wonder if D.B Weiss and David Benioff had second thoughts about their final decision somewhere along the way.
