'Game of Thrones' Director Defends That Scene Between Jon and Ghost in Latest Episode [SPOILERS]

This story includes spoilers for 'Game of Thrones' Season 8, Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks."
This last season of Game of Thrones has certainly got people talking, and mixed reactions are the norm now. From the Night King's quick death, to Daenerys Targaryen apparently forgetting about the Iron Fleet, complaints about the show and the creators' choices for Season 8 are abundant.
But director David Nutter is here to explain another controversial scene that involves a beloved character, Jon's direwolf Ghost. When Jon doesn't give a heartfelt goodbye to his faithful protector, who he raised since he was a puppy, in Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks," fans were outraged. All the goodbye Ghost got from Jon was a solemn nod, nothing else.
But according to Nutter, there's a technical reason why Jon never gets close enough to Ghost. He told The Huffington Post, "Since the direwolves are kind of CG creations, we felt it best to keep it as simple as possible." Nutter also defended the choice, claiming the scene "played out much more powerfully" in the end.
But now after this explanation, we're left with more questions. In the Season 8 episode "The Long Night," Lyanna Mormont is literally picked up by a giant, and we can't forget the fact that both Dany and Jon ride dragons. It looks like this was just a matter of picking which CGI character was in their favor.
If we truly don't see him again, we'll miss Ghost in the final two episodes of Game of Thrones.
