'Game of Thrones' Episode 'The Long Night' Breaks Series Record in Viewers
By Hannah Wigandt
Not only did the latest Game of Thrones episode "The Long Night" break barriers in television history, but it also brought some of the fiercest victories--both onscreen and off. The episode broke the record for the longest TV battle scene, while also breaking its own record for viewership.
According to The Wrap, 17.8 million people tuned in to watch one of the greatest episodes of GoT ever on Sunday night, and now it holds the series record for most views. This number also includes views on HBO Go and HBO Now.
The sum of viewers has gone up 12% since the previous week's episode, which brought in 15.9 million viewers on its debut night.
The previous record holders for GoT were the Season 8 premiere episode and Season 7 finale, which both saw 16.9 million viewers on their respective debut nights. HBO now says that the Season 8 premiere has been watched by over 38 million viewers. Imagine how many will watch "The Long Night" within the next few weeks.
This past week's episode saw the Battle of Winterfell begin and conclude, with the demise of the Night King finishing up the 82-minute show. There's no doubt "The Long Night" record will be broken in the next three episodes of the final season of Thrones.
