'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke Opens Up on Why She Won't Google Herself
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke became an overnight sensation for her performance as Daenerys Targaryen. Fans watched her grow from a timid twenty-something year-old into a badass queen, both on and off the screen. But the one thing that has remained through the fame and fortune is Clarke’s sweetness. She seems approachable, down-to-earth, and the epitome of bubbly, making many wonder how such a mega-superstar could remain so level-headed.
As it turns out, the Khaleesi actor has a method for keeping her life grounded. In a recent interview with Body and Soul, the 33-year-old star revealed she decided very early on to try to stay away from online criticism, especially after surviving two brain hemorrhages while filming early on for the show.
“I learnt very, very early on, after the first year [on Game of Thrones], and especially after my brain hemorrhages, not to read anything. I don't Google myself, I don't look at anything,” Clarke admitted, adding:
“And that, to me, is the recipe for success in dealing with fame and any subsequent failures. If you try not to tie your sense of self worth to what other people perceive as success, then you're not going to tie it to what people may perceive as failure, either.”
The Last Christmas star continued, “I learnt to look the other way - at things that gave me real joy. Things that made me feel like a real human being, as opposed to a dancing monkey. That's definitely the biggest life lesson I've learnt along the way.”
We hope you never change, Emilia!
