This story includes spoilers for 'Game of Thrones' Season 8, Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks."
If anyone thought that this season of Game of Thrones would go easy on its characters, you thought wrong. The biggest battle has yet to come, and you can bet some of our favorites are going to die. But Episode 4 of the final season, "The Last of the Starks," saw a death we weren't expecting.
The death of Missandei of Naath was truly upsetting to watch, and was just another blow for Daenerys Targaryen in an episode that saw her as vulnerable as ever. Missandei's death was the first in what Daenerys calls the "last war," and it just might have set the Mother of Dragons over the edge.
Actress Nathalie Emmanuel is just as heartbroken as the rest of us, and has shared an emotional Instagram post in tribute to her character. The 30-year-old star posted a series of photos of Missandei with Daenerys and Grey Worm, along with a lengthy caption where she thanked her co-stars and her fans.
"It’s been one of my greatest joys playing Missandei of Naath...," Emmanuel started. "The quiet and kind translator. A brilliant woman who overcame so much suffering and found herself, her voice... and her one and only love. She represented so much for me, personally, that I have no choice but to carry the things she has taught me into my life going forward. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to play this part... this life changing part..."
Cersei has just proven yet again that she means no mercy, no matter how much Tyrion Lannister may believe she's not as evil as she seems. We'll miss the loyal Missandei in the final two episodes of Game of Thrones.
