Gaten Matarazzo Reveals the Unexpected Character He'd Want to Play in a 'Star Wars' Film

Stranger Things has been responsible for launching several now-stars, including Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, and Joe Keery, into the spotlight, and many are already beginning to eye more prestige roles for their future career. This week, another actor joined the mix, with Gaten Matarazzo revealing the Star Wars character he wants to play when he’s older, as reported by ComicBook.com.
In an interview with IMDb, the actor said that, if he had his pick, he would play Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. "Like, if it ever--they shouldn't remake any Star Wars movie, they shouldn't do any remakes, but if they ever remake the originals, nah-uh, but if they asked me to be Obi-Wan, I'm totally on board.”
Matarazzo added that his desire for the role would likely overshadow his distaste for a potential Star Wars remake, saying, “If I'm like 75, and they're like, 'You wanna do this?' I'm like, yeah, heck yeah, I'm totally doing it, even if I don't agree with them making a remake. I would totally wanna be Obi-Wan."
Though Obi-Wan has been one of the most lastingly popular characters in the Star Wars franchise, fan hopes for a solo spinoff film have been consistently stymied. While expectations rose after the announcement of spin-offs including Rogue One, the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story has dimmed the prospect of future character spin-offs.
While the potential for an Obi-Wan film isn’t looking great right now, though, we can’t help but imagine what Matarazzo would be like as the character.
