Gillian Jacobs From 'Community': Where is She Now?
By Lillian Marx
It seems like a lifetime ago that Gillian Jacobs was starring as Britta Perry on NBC’s Community. The show was a cult favorite, and by now it’s been cemented as a television classic. Gillian’s character was specifically beloved, which is an extra badge of honor given the total fan devotion to the series. No surprise, then, that the conversation around Community is still going strong, especially now that the show is on Netflix. Gillian hasn’t slowed down either.
Britta From Community Now
Since the series finale of Community in 2015, Gillian has developed her career as a film, TV, and stage actor, and as a director. She’s become an expert at playing the flawed millennial. Her skill for chaotic characters, along with her signature comedic sensibility, are on display in her recurring role as Mimi-Rose Howard in Season 4 of Girls, and in her starring role as Mickey Dobbs on Netflix’s romantic comedy Love (2016–2018). Gillian has also tackled several film roles since her days on Community, most notably the Melissa McCarthy flick Life of the Party.
Further proving her versatility, Gillian did a two-month stint in 2018 at NYC’s Public Theater, playing Kate in a production of Kings. And she’s moved into directing as well, with a 2015 documentary short, The Queen of Code, and a narrative short, Curated, produced in conjunction with TNT and Refinery29.
As for Gillian’s personal life? “In real life, I am so boring,” the 37-year-old actress told The New York Times in 2016. “I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. Dinner out of the house is a big night for me. I love books and NPR.”
Just because Gillian is keeping busy professionally doesn’t mean she’s forgotten about Community. She recently told Entertainment Weekly that she would definitely do a revival movie, given the opportunity. “I would do the movie, absolutely,” she affirmed. “I get so sentimental when I talk about this stuff because, for all of us, this could’ve gone a different way. ... I think it was a real special combination of people and time.” Here's to hoping we see more of her!
