'Harry Potter's Tom Felton Thought Gary Oldman Was a Cleaner on the Set
At LeakyCon Dallas expo earlier this month, several Harry Potter cast members got together to share their experiences of what it was like to work on such a huge set over the years. Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Scarlett Byrne (Pansy Parkinson), Afshan Azad (Padma Patil), Georgina Leonidas (Katie Bell), and Tiana Benjamin (Angelina Johnson) spoke about the franchise's impressive cast, particularly considering they were young actors at the time.
According to FanFest, Leonidas shared that she was struck by how down-to-earth Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) was. She explained, “There was no hierarchy on set. We were all there to make a film, and they made you feel like you wanted to be there.”
Azad said she learned from Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney), who encouraged her to stay in school no matter what. Now the actress claims that's the advice that she gives to younger actors.
Felton added that they got to learn from some of the greatest actors in the world, a situation that mimicked their on-screen education as new wizards. “Because we were young wizards learning from older wizards and the reality is that we were young, crap actors learning from the best,” he said.
But despite being around seasoned actors, that doesn't mean they were all that famous to the child stars at first. Felton also shared that he thought now-Academy Award winner Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) was a cleaner on set!
The cast had nothing but wonderful things to say about their Harry Potter experience, which only makes the beloved series all the better.
