How Angela Kinsey Came Up With the Sprinkles the Cat Storyline on 'The Office'
While many fans are impatiently awaiting any news about a possible reunion from the cast of The Office, there's certainly one thing that's sure to hold fans over: the Office Ladies podcast.
Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey started the podcast in October, and ever since, they've spilled tons of Office tea. For instance, did you know Kinsey was the one who originally came up with Sprinkles, her character's beloved cat? Yep, according to ScreenRant, that's exactly the case.
The invention of Sprinkles was actually a happy accident. While Kinsey was killing time on set during filming of the pilot, she doodled a picture of a cat on a piece of paper.
When she was tasked with handing out papers in the episode, she handed out her cat drawings, which she made to be an invite to Sprinkle's birthday party. That's not where the cute pet's story ended, though, and she ended up having kind of a long-running role!
Even Kinsey was surprised by how her impromptu drawing became a real part of the show. She chatted with Bustle in 2018 and said she thought it was simply "busy work" at the time. "Here’s a thing I’m just doing in the background, giving myself busy work as an actor, and then Jenna improvises off of it and then that becomes Sprinkles!" she recalled.
Sadly, Sprinkles passed away on the show, but RIP to a true fictional pet icon!
