How 'Game of Thrones' Stars Reacted to Their Emmy Nominations
The Game of Thrones fam is so excited, and they're not hiding it.
It was announced Tuesday afternoon that the HBO heavy hitter secured 32 Emmy nominations for their controversial final season, and in true GoT fashion, the whole gang is sending humble “thank yous” and proud shout-outs to one another via social media.
Besides the series being nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, a whopping 10 of its stars scored noms for their acting, including Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), and Carice van Houten (Melisandre).
Harper’s Bazaar reports that actors such as Turner, Christie, Williams, and Allen were some of the first to respond to their noms. Besides Williams, who was nominated in 2016 for Best Supporting Actress, the other three are first-time nominees.
Williams reacted to her nomination news below in cool-as-a-cucumber Arya fashion.
Carice van Houten also didn’t stray from her stoic GoT part. She riffed some of Melisandre’s famous lines, saying, “Whut?!?!? The summer is hot and full of surprises! Wow, I'm very excited and proud!"
Christie, a.k.a Brienne of Tarth, could not keep as serious as her character after hearing the news. She posted a picture of the Emmy email with the emotional caption, "I CAN[']T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!????!?!!?!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #EmmyAwards #CANITTRULYBEREAL??????????"
Lena Headey, who was nominated in the same category for her performance of the evil queen Cersei Lannister, commented "GWENDOLINE” with praise hands and heart emojis.
Turner also shared an emotional response to the news to her Instagram Story, also giving a shout-out to her "queens" and fellow nominees: Williams, Christie, and Headey.
Harington, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series--his first nomination for a leading role--said in a statement to Us Weekly, "Many thanks to the Academy. It’s been an amazing journey with ol’ Jon Snow. I’m thrilled he’s been nominated."
Congratulations to all the nominees, especially our favorite Game of Thrones stars!
