James Gunn Hired Back for 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'
Many Marvel fans' hopes have been answered.
In July 2018, many were shocked when it was announced James Gunn had been fired from the Guardians of the Galaxy series after offensive tweets of his from years ago were uncovered. Although most were appalled at the old messages, no one expected the fan-favorite director to be axed by Disney.
After the fact, fans and celebrities alike began to rally for Disney to rehire Gunn, with the Guardians cast even posting an open letter on social media in which they spoke of how much they believed the director should be reinstated.
Months have passed, with little to no hope Gunn would be back to the MCU. He even was hired for the DCEU, slated to direct the Suicide Squad sequel. But in a surprising turn of events, Deadline has just announced he's also be coming back to do the third GotG film.
"I’ve learned that Disney has reinstated James Gunn as the writer-director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and I’ve confirmed it with Marvel and Gunn’s camp," reporter Mike Fleming Jr. writes.
Fans have unsurprisingly already begun celebrating on social media. We can expect the Guardians cast to do the same soon.
