Jessica Chastain Calls Out 'Game of Thrones' for Sansa Moment in Latest Episode

Despite being co-stars in Dark Phoenix, Jessica Chastain has just called out Sophie Turner's show Game of Thrones, after one scene with Sansa Stark in last week's episode, "The Last of the Starks," sparked backlash.

After the new episode premiered on Sunday, Chastain took to Twitter to comment on a specific part she thought was wrong. The scene in question is between Sansa and the Hound, as they talk about how everything Sansa went through could have been avoided, however it wouldn't have made her as strong as she is now.

"Rape is not a tool to make a character stronger. A woman doesn't need to be victimized in order to become a butterfly," Chastain tweeted, along with a gif of Turner on the Iron Throne. "The #littlebird was always a Phoenix. Her prevailing strength is solely because of her. And her alone."

The most terrible thing Sansa ever faced throughout the series was no doubt being married to Ramsay Bolton, as he repeatedly raped her and treated her like a prisoner. She was also mistreated by Petyr Baelish, who acted like her confidant but was really manipulating her the entire time. "Without Littlefinger and Ramsay and the rest, I would have stayed a little bird all my life," Sansa says in the latest episode. It's true what didn't kill her just made her stronger, but we do wish the wording in this scene wasn't so cringe-worthy.

Chastain has been a very dedicated Thrones fan, so we don't think the show is completely ruined for her. She just needed to stand up for her Marvel co-star, and for women in general.
