Josh Gad Finally Reveals if He's Playing DC's Penguin
By Shawnie Hamer
Josh Gad has finally put the rumors that he is playing the Penguin in the new Matt Reeves film The Batman to rest…and fans are not going to like it.
After months of speculation of (and rallying for) the Frozen star to play the plump villain, Gad has announced that he is done teasing fans.
Gad tweeted on Friday, “Ok, seeing as I keep getting this question...as much as I have LOVED torturing you all with teasing you about the Penguin, I feel like it’s time to tell you...I’m NOT actually playing this character. But I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the fan art and the love.”
Though the news may be a bummer for some fans, many are taking the announcement as a win. As Comicbook.com points out, the fact that Gad is commenting on this role so confidently means that there are likely solid details about the film falling into place, details (one could speculate) he knows.
Oh maybe, just maybe, Gad is just enjoying messing with fans’ emotions, no matter the outcome. A quote from Reeves recently surfaced expressing his admiration for Gad, making fans believe that him being cast isn't out of the realm of possibility. Reeves said, "I love Josh Gad,” noting that his son is in class with the actor's daughter. “We're good friends.”
Perhaps Reeves and Gad are pulling a fast one on fans, but if we take the actor for his word, it looks like the Penguin’s shoes will be filled by someone else.
