Kailyn Lowry is Under Serious Fire After Old 'Teen Mom 2' Clip Resurfaces With 'Racist' Remarks
As racist behavior from celebrities—either past or present—continues to be brought into the limelight, companies are finally starting to take a look at who they've employed, and are taking accusations seriously. This week, Taylor Selfridge, who has appeared on reality shows Teen Mom OG, Are You The One? and Ex on the Beach, was fired by MTV after old racist tweets of hers had resurfaced. And now, people are calling for the same treatment for Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry, bringing forward an old video from the series in which she made offensive remarks.
The chatter really took off when Kailyn's co-star and enemy, Briana DeJesus, shared an old clip from Teen Mom 2, where Kail and her ex, Jo Rivera, argue about how their son Isaac dresses. "When he goes over there, you have him dress a certain way, you have him look a certain way, you have his hair cut a certain way, and that's not who he is," Kailyn argues. "I think you forget about the fact that he's half-white and he's half-Hispanic. I feel like you dress him in a stereotypical way and I don't like it."
When Jo presses further, Kailyn declares, "You dress him like a thug!" Watch the video below in the two tweets.
Briana quote-tweeted one of the videos and wrote, "Wtf did I just watch. Smh." This prompted a flood of replies, with people extremely disappointed and disgusted in Kailyn's behavior. Many even called for her to be fired. "She has a fetish for Hispanic and black men but doesn’t truly understand or respect their culture," one follower replied. "She literally sees them in a negative light and she made that very apparent. This episode was so frustrating." Another said, "Finally been waiting on this to come back to light forever... She got away with being a racist far [too] long!"
Some Twitter users even directed tagged MTV, with one writing, "@MTV what do you have to say about this? Go ahead and cancel her right quick," and another saying, "@MTV where’s the outrage here? You can sleep with BIPOC and Latinx people and still be racist. Let’s have the same energy you had for Taylor as for Kailyn or does she make you too much money?"
Bri herself weighed in on the possibility of Kailyn getting fired, writing, "She won’t get fired. [MTV] favors her too much [crying laughing emojis]."
For Kailyn's part, her Twitter is now deactivated. Though she hasn't responded to all the backlash, we're sure she won't remain quiet for long.
