Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Are Reportedly Trying Free ASAP Rocky
By Ryan Carroll
The hip-hop world has been aflame for the past several weeks since the arrest of ASAP Rocky in Sweden, with numerous artists and politicians speaking out on his behalf. Among these activists are allegedly Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who are reportedly attempting to advocate on Rocky’s behalf with the U.S. government.
According to TMZ, West, upon hearing of Rocky’s predicament, asked Kardashian to use her connection to White House aide Jared Kushner, son-in-law to President Donald Trump, to lobby for assistance for the imprisoned rapper. According to reports, Kushner was able to connect with Trump on the issue; he was also able to connect with two members of Rocky’s management team over the phone.
Rocky was originally arrested in Sweden earlier this month after an alleged assault. As Complex reports, Rocky has asserted that the men with whom he fought had been harassing him and others. His team also released video footage of the event that seems to corroborate part of the story.
Subsequently, the arrest has received broad condemnation, with artists including Tyga, Tyler, the Creator, and Schoolboy Q all boycotting Sweden in protest of Rocky’s imprisonment. Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat and other Congressional Black Caucus members have also called for Rocky’s release.
While we’re not sure how much attention Kardashian and West will get from the White House, we're glad they're calling attention to Rocky's case-especially on such a global scale.
