Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Face Backlash After Gifting Daughter North Michael Jackson's Jacket for Christmas

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West surprised their eldest daughter, North West, with quite the Christmas gift this year, but some followers think it might have been a tad tone deaf.

E! News reports that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star posted a snap of North’s present to her Instagram Story this week. The photo shows a picture of a jacket actually worn by Michael Jackson to his friend Elizabeth Taylor's 65th birthday party, as well as to the screening of his movie Ghost at the 50th Cannes Film Festival.

The KKW Beauty founder captioned the post, “North is a really big Michael Jackson fan and we knew she would love this. We won this on an auction for Northie for Christmas.”

It is reported that the A-list couple spent $65,625 for the piece of pop culture history. Though Kim stated that the jacket, "can grow with [North] and she can have this for her whole life,” many followers found it ridiculous that they spent such an extravagant amount of money on a six-year-old child.

One user posted online, “How many meals or toys could have be bought with this money for the homeless or children. It is people like you who [don’t] care about anyone but yourself.”

In addition to the price, many fans were upset about the gift due to the pedophilia scandal surrounding the deceased musician. One follower commented, “She better keep making the money, just think of all the good that could have been done with this cash, helping people in need. Instead some rich kid gets to wear a pervert's jacket. Too much money, not enough brains.”

Though Kim and Kanye can obviously do whatever they like with their millions, maybe this wasn’t the best gift for their little girl.
