Kim Kardashian Says She Had 'Innocent Intentions' With Kimono Shapewear Line

Shortly after announcing that the new name of her shapewear line was "Kimono," Kim Kardashian took to social media to announce that they were changing the name. The backtracking came as a result of heated comments, claiming that the name being used this way was a form of cultural appropriation and insensitive to a tradition that Kim can claim no roots within.
In the Wall Street Journal Magazine's first all-digital issue, Kim spoke about what happened behind the scenes when the shapewear line was being created and named. “You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,” she said, as reported by People.
The 38-year-old continued, “I’m the first person to say, ‘Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.’ I obviously had really innocent intentions. But, let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.”
Kim explained that her husband, Kanye West, was in Japan when the name was being chosen and used this as an example of how much they as a couple love and respect the country.
The shapewear line offers bikini briefs, thongs, bras, waist trainers, leggings and bodysuits ranging from size XXS-4XL. The items will sell from a range of $22 to $98 and come in nine different color hues.
When WSJ. Magazine pointed out that there are other products with the name "Kimono" trademarked, Kim rightly said, “There might be more eyes on me and my brand.”
She went on: “And so I have to tune it out and really learn and really grow and have to realize that maybe there is a different standard. Do I feel held to a higher standard? I’ll take responsibility for that and do the right thing.”
When asked what the new name will be, Kim said: "We're figuring it all out now."
