Kim Kardashian Shares Selfie With Psoriasis Flare-Up as She Opens Up About Condition

Kim Kardashian West opened up this week on her older sister’s, Kourtney Kardashian, lifestyle website, Poosh, about her struggle with psoriasis. Though the KKW founder has been open about her battle in the past, this time she shared all.
Kim explains that she watched her mother, Kris Jenner, battle with psoriasis, but never fully understood what having the disease could mean. When her first flare up occurred at 25, she couldn’t find relief in the same treatments as Kris, who would often go to tanning beds to ease the symptoms.
She explains, “I’d see it all the time and remember [Kris] going to the tanning salon to try and ease it. Getting UV rays directly on the spots really helped my mom. For me, however, that remedy would burn the areas and cause them to itch, so I always felt helpless. I am the only child my mom passed down her autoimmune issue to. Lucky me, lol.”
Luckily, her neighbor at the time was a dermatologist and gave her a shot of cortisone that help put the disease in remission for five years. Since then, the disease has come back full force, popping up all over her body.
Kim explains that she was also recently been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, an autoimmune disease often linked to psoriasis that causes extreme joint pain. She admits, “It’s still painful and scary, but I was happy to have a diagnosis. No matter what autoimmune condition I had, I was going to get through it.”
Though her journey has been difficult, she wants other people with the disease to know that they will be okay. “If you have psoriasis, you can’t let it ruin your life or get the best of you. You have to do what you can to make sure you are comfortable but not let it take over.”
