Lena Headey Lands Starring Role in New Showtime Series 'Rita'
While Game of Thrones concluded over a month ago now, some fans are likely having trouble letting go of their favorite characters, or even the characters we love to hate, like Cersei Lannister. But all that is about to change, because Lena Headey is trading in her Turnip wig for a new starring role.
According to Variety, the 45-year-old actress has been cast as the titular leading role in a new Showtime series called Rita. The reported hour-long dramedy has been ordered a pilot so far. Headey plays a "headstrong, unconventional teacher and single mother who takes on every kind of authority – as well as her family – in a messy and unfiltered way." Sounds like a modern-day Cersei, but far less evil.
Headey's new casting announcement comes on the heels of the news that she's joining Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. The animated series will serve as a prequel to the fan-favorite Jim Henson and Frank Oz film from 1982, The Dark Crystal.
We are extremely excited to hear of Headey's recent casting in Rita, and can't wait to see what she brings to another strong female role.
