Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Says She's Not Sure of the Future for 'Star Wars'
The Star Wars franchise is in a strange paradox. On one hand, the universe is becoming clearer everyday with shows like The Mandalorian, as well as with the release of the final chapter to the current trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, just around the corner.
But on the other hand, a lot is uncertain. For example, Game of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, who were supposed to take on the next trilogy, recently backed out, leaving the details of the films totally up in the air.
Now, ComicBook.com reveals that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is also unsure of the future of the company. The long-time producer has been in her role since 2012, but now, it doesn't seem she has an exact plan for what's next—both for the franchise and personally.
Kennedy explained in a recent interview with Rolling Stone:
“I've really enjoyed this, I have to say. It's been incredibly exciting, and just the fact that George [Lucas] asked me to do this, I felt a tremendous responsibility with stepping in and taking care of the franchise, and if there were going to be new movies, to really pull a team around this that cared as much as he did. What happens in the future and how long and how much longer I do this? I don't know yet. I'm looking at all of that.”
She added about the upcoming film, “It's been incredibly satisfying to reach this point where we've completed the saga and, I think, made a really wonderful movie. It's going to feel very satisfying to the audience. So that's what I'm focused on right at the moment -- and what the future holds, who knows.”
Will Kennedy stick it out for another trilogy, or call it quits after The Rise of Skywalker? I guess we will have to wait and see.
