Mark Hamill Pays Tribute to Late 'Star Wars' Co-Star Carrie Fisher on 'The Rise of Skywalker's Release
By Rachel Reed
The time has come—Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is finally in theaters. This means witnessing the return of many franchise favorites, including Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Fans know that Fisher sadly passed away in 2016, and J.J. Abrams made the choice to include unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in his latest film. Warning: it's a tear jerker.
For the last time, Leia appears in the same film as her onscreen brother Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill. So, Hamill honored Fisher on his Twitter, acknowledging the fact that their story is coming to a very real end after more than 40 years. In the caption, he writes, "One last time."
Fans flooded the replies section with love and support, calling the moment "a beautiful tribute." One wrote, "Oh Mark, you made me cry. The Force is with you and Carrie forever." And another said, "And now I'm going to cry again. I cried in the theatre last night watching #StarWarsRiseofSkywalker and this just...I miss her. Seeing the two of you together like that...pulls my heartstrings."
And now the old friends will be saying goodbye to the Skywalker Saga by each other's side, even if only in spirit.
