The annual Met Gala is almost here--and fans are ready to see all their favorite celebrities strut up and down the carpet in the most fabulous and extravagant attire. The event, formerly called the Costume Institute Gala, was first held all the way back in 1948. It serves as both a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, and an opportunity to serve some fierce looks.

The Met Gala is known for its unique themes, with this year's being "Camp: Notes on Fashion," inspired by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay Notes on Camp. Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, and Harry Styles will be hosting. Here's everything else you need to know about the 2019 event and where you can watch the red carpet.

When is the Met Gala 2019?

This year's famed event will be taking place on Monday, May 6, with the red carpet beginning at 7 p.m. EST.
