Naya Rivera's Body Reportedly Found at Lake Piru Less Than 1 Week After Her Disappearance
Less than one week after she went missing on California's Lake Piru, Naya Rivera's body has reportedly been recovered. According to TMZ, the Glee actress was found on July 13 after a grueling, days-long search. She was only 33 years old.
Ventura County officials announced Monday morning they had recovered a body from the lake, and law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that it is Rivera's. A press conference with further details is supposedly forthcoming.
Rivera was first reported missing on July 8, after she failed to return a boat rental which she'd taken out earlier that day with her four-year-old son, who she shares with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey. Her son was found safe on the boat, though he said his mom had yet to return after going swimming. Not long after, officials announced Rivera was presumed dead, and they continued the search for her body, adding that there was no foul play suspected. "This is considered to be a horrible accident," officials said in a separate statement to NBC Los Angeles.
Rivera's big break as an actress came in 2009 when she landed the role of Santana Lopez on the Fox hit series Glee. Many of her former co-stars, including Heather Morris, Iqbal Theba, and temporary cast member Demi Lovato shared prayers online after hearing of Rivera's disappearance.
Our thoughts go out to Rivera's family and friends during this difficult time.
