New York City Councilman Slams Kardashians for Promoting Unhealthy Detox Drinks
The Kardashian-Jenner sisters have had a few choice words thrown at them for their support of detox and diet drinks over the years, but recently the criticism got political when a New York City councilman, Mark Levine, called them all out by name during a campaign speech.
The Democratic candidate is running for the Manhattan borough president, and part of his platform is pushing for a law to ban sales of detox teas, shakes, and similar products to New Yorkers younger than 18 years old. New York Daily News reports that Levine condemned the Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars for profiting off the harmful products, saying:
“I’m going to name names: Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Amber Rose … shame on you! Shame on all of you for using the trust you have established with young people to push these products, to push these dangerous products, because you wanted to receive lucrative contracts.”
While most of the ladies of the famous family are guilty of promoting the drinks, Khloé was most recently slammed for sharing a now-deleted post for Flat Tummy Co. shakes earlier this month. Many dragged the Revenge Body host at the time, saying she was promoting unhealthy body image and care for the young women following her.
A rep for the Kardashian-Jenners declined to comment on Levine’s statement, but hopefully the reality stars are finally hearing the message loud and clear.
