One Conversation From 'Game of Thrones' Latest Episode Might Hint at Jon Snow's Fate [SPOILERS]

With just two episodes left of Game of Thrones, we’re getting nervous for our favorite characters. If the finale goes in typical Thrones fashion, which is known to kill off many seemingly significant people, no one is safe. And despite Jon Snow’s annoying need to do the right thing, we’re betting most people are rooting for him. He’s currently in a very tough position, as he has unintentionally betrayed the woman he loves, Daenerys Targaryen, by learning he’s the true heir of the throne, something Dany believed was her destiny all her life. That also makes him her nephew, but that's not nearly as important to her.

So what will Jon’s fate be in the final moments of the series? Redditor mephis_baal believes one conversation from the latest episode, “The Last of the Starks,” has hinted at what’s to come for him. When Jon leaves Winterfell for King’s Landing to help Daenerys in the battle against Cersei Lannister for the Iron Throne, he must say a few emotional goodbyes. Although he appears to snub his beloved direwolf Ghost, Jon says farewell to Samwell Tarly and Gilly, along with Tormund Giantsbane. In his scene with the Wildling, Jon tells him that Ghost will be happier up north, to which Tormund replies, “So would you.” Jon then says he wishes he was going with him as well, before adding, “This is farewell then.” Tormund isn’t so sure, however, telling him, “You never know.” And before walking off, he adds, “You got the north in you, the real north.”

While this might've been only a sentimental conversation between the pair, who have come a long way since first meeting in Season 3, fans have started to speculate that it foreshadows Jon actually returning to the north. And the Reddit user has posed a theory as to how it might happen. According to them, the battle against Cersei will be won, but Daenerys will ultimately die. Jon will become the king, but because he’ll be so heartbroken over the death of his love, he will abandon his duties and go live with the Freefolk up north, leaving Sansa Stark in charge of the Seven Kingdoms.

As we’ve seen throughout the seasons, Jon does not want to be the king of anything. This theory coming true would finally give him an opportunity to live in peace, but would be upsetting at the same time. A “bittersweet” ending is what we’ve been told to expect from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, so it shouldn’t be out of the question for the show.
