Original Draft Shows Kevin's Famous Chili Scene From 'The Office' Was Once Much Worse
By Rachel Reed
Who could forget Kevin’s famous chili from The Office? The iconic cold open begins with him saying he likes to bring his special recipe into work once a year, and his entrance quickly turns into a once in a lifetime disaster. For better or worse, that incident is one of the most unforgettable scenes of the entire show, forever burned into fans’ memories. His tragic attempt to scoop chili off the carpet will live on in infamy, binge session after binge session. But the original script had a different outcome, and it was actually even worse.
Looking back, it’s difficult to imagine the chili incident going any worse (or more gross) for Kevin than it did, but according to Uproxx, things originally played out differently. This information comes from Andy Greene, who interviewed the show’s cast and crew for his new book The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s. On Twitter, Greene shared the original draft scoop. And of course, fans have been eating it up.
Check out the first draft that never made it on the air and see if you think the creators decided on the correct chili crisis.
As you can see from the original draft, Kevin throws the pot into a trash can instead of spilling it all over the floor. But the chili aroma permeates the entire office, and per usual, chaos ensues. While this version isn't nearly as messy when it comes to the clean up, it’s a much sadder, smellier turn of events, and certainly lasts way longer. Gross!
