'Outer Banks' Actor Chase Stokes Reveals He Almost Scored Han Solo Role in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'
Chase Stokes surfed into the spotlight and every girl's heart when starring in the recent Netflix series Outer Banks, but it looks like the 27-year-old actor almost got the chance to be the heartthrob of a galaxy far, far away first.
As reported by Cinema Blend, the Maryland native did a video for BuzzFeed along with his co-stars in May, where he dropped the revelation that he auditioned for the part of a young Han Solo in the 2018 spinoff film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Stokes got totally candid when sharing, "I don’t know if I’ve told you guys this, but when they did the Han Solo reboot I got pretty deep in the casting to play Han Solo. I think I read five times for that. And then they casted a 35-year-old guy, so."
Of course, Star Wars fans know that Alden Ehrenreich ultimately was the actor lucky enough to scoop up the part, and with a few roles with acclaimed directors under his belt, such as Chan-wook Park's Stoker and Joel and Ethan Coen's Hail, Caesar!, we wouldn't say he was inexperienced—even if he was a relatively fresh face in Hollywood. And as CinemaBlend points out, Ehrenreich is only 30 years old currently, meaning he was in his 20s when filming Solo.
Though Stokes seems a bit salty about missing out on the role, he certainly wasn't the only popular actor who almost played the iconic smuggler. Reportedly also on the shortlist was Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Dave Franco, all of whom have been acclaimed for their various works. With new content from the Star Wars universe in the works, perhaps Stokes will have his chance eventually to head to space!
