Paul Dano Says He Was 'Really Surprised' by Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' Script
After production on The Batman had come to a halt amid rising safety concerns surrounding coronavirus, director Matt Reeves revealed that the break from filming allowed him to reevaluate the film's tone.
Reeves explained that the complex nature of the movie requires a flexible attitude, telling Deadline in April, "It happens any time you shoot anything. The unexpected — happy accidents and things you didn’t quite expect: That is the lightning in a bottle for something that is alive. I would say that the changes really have to do with ‘Oh, seeing the tone of this’ with these scenes we haven’t done which connect to that part of the storyline."
If DC fans had any apprehension about the film's tone or overall quality, actor Paul Dano, who is set to play The Riddler, says there's no need to worry. As reported by CBR, the Golden Globe nominee recently expressed his faith in Reeves to The Playlist, offering praise for the script. "I feel really good about it. I think Matt Reeves is the real deal," he said. "I was really surprised by his script, which I think is, is potentially really powerful."
In the same interview, Dano briefly spoke about his experience playing the iconic villain, saying, "There’s something fun there in my character and in all the characters. It’s the kind of movie that we’re just desperate to share on the big screen in a big way."
The Batman also stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. It was recently announced that filming for the movie would resume in the UK, keeping it on schedule to premiere on Oct. 1, 2021.
