'Friends' Fans Argue Whether or Not Phoebe Buffay is the Show's Worst Character

If you are a fan of Friends, chances are you've have ranked the six main characters from best to worst in your head about a dozen times. This can prove to be an almost impossible task, considering that every character brings something to the table. Even though I think most people can agree that Ross is by far the most hurtful (flirting with his cousin, lying to Rachel, always being rude to Susan), fans on Reddit are wondering if Phoebe tops the list for the worst Friends character.

"I’ve rewatched Friends more times than I can count and every time I just kind of start to dislike Phoebe more and more," the thread began. "I just think she’s really rude to her friends, most of them. The thing that I hate that most is the episode with the lost cat. I hate it!! What do you guys think?"

In typical Reddit fashion, people voiced their opinions on the matter. One person commented that they "always found her character weak and unnecessary" and that removing her from the series "would not change the tone of it one bit." Someone else chimed in saying that while "early season Phoebe is fun, quirky, and mysterious" her character becomes "just plain rude" in later seasons.

One person tried to offer Phoebe a bit of redemption, saying that although she is "definitely the least needed" of the main characters, her role is necessary because she is the funniest. But it looks like compliments towards her are rare in this thread. Another particularly angry fan wrote, "Finally someone says it. I hate in particular how easily she gets away with being rude/disrespectful compared to the rest of the friends. Also, it really grinds my gears how she ruined Monica and Chandler’s weekend getaway twice by never getting over the London trip and 'tattling' on Monica. I’ve hated her ever since."

Funnily enough, Screen Rant recently published a piece titled "10 Things About Phoebe That Would Never Fly Today," pointing out all the poor choices the character made, such as not inviting her parents to her wedding and stealing a cat. Looks like despite her fun quirks which make her a unique character, Phoebe did kind of mess up a lot.

Whatever your opinion on Phoebe is, fans can look forward to seeing Lisa Kudrow appear alongside the rest of the cast for the Friends unscripted reunion special, which is expected to shoot this summer.
