Ray J's Wife Flips Off Camera at MTV Movie & TV Awards Over Kim Kardashian Joke
By Ryan Carroll
It’s not unusual for members of the Kardashian-Jenner family or their friends to be bombarded by humorous media attention--after all, that’s to be expected when you’re a mega-successful crew of influencers. But sometimes, Kardashian-related jokes extend out to even more periphery members of the family--as on Monday night, when a Kim Kardashian joke at the MTV Movie & TV Awards prompted Ray J’s wife to flip off the camera.
According to Us Weekly, the joke, made host Zachary Levi, not-so-subtly jabbed at Ray J’s relationship with Kardashian. “Of course, America’s other sweetheart Ray J, from Love & Hip Hop, is here,” Levi said during his opening monologue. “Although I’m sure some of you are more familiar with his work as a cameraman.”
The camera then cut to Ray J and his wife, Princess Love, who smiled and flashed her middle fingers at the camera. “I had to,” Levi joked. “I’m sorry, it was collectively a great idea.”
The joke refers to the sex tape of Kardashian and Ray J released in 2007 but made years prior. The tape played a large role in launching the Kardashian family into the media spotlight, and Kardashian herself has not shied away from commenting on it--even remarking in 2018 that she was “absolutely” on drugs when it was filmed.
Ray J, for his part, has since said that, despite rumors to the contrary, he would never have a negative comment about Kardashian. According to Us, the singer said on an Instagram video just a month after Kardashian’s admission that:
“The person I am now is not who I was in the past. I need y’all to give me a chance to grow and to love and to respect the people I’m with without trying to slander my name, please.”
If you ask us, it’s good to see that Ray J will be keeping it civil with Kim for the foreseeable future--their relationship is mired with plenty of difficulties, and there’s no need to drag them or their families into drama that’s done and over. Whether or not Levi's joke at the award show went too far is up for debate.
