Release date for Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 starring Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard announced

Just days away from the final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4, the release date for Finn Wolfhard's next project has been announced. A sequel to the popular 2021 Jason Reitman movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, was revealed by Sony Pictures, following the details they spilled on Ghost Buster day on June 7.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, doesn’t have an official title just yet, but it does have an official release date, that being December 20, 2023. When it comes out, the film will see the series return to New York City and its Firehouse setting, which was prominently featured in both of the original two films and Paul Feig’s reboot.

Described as “the next chapter in the Spengler family story,” the upcoming sequel will once again be directed by Jason Reitman from a screenplay he is co-writing with Gil Kenan. It’s still unclear if all of the original Afterlife cast and the legacy characters would be returning or not.

The 2021 film earned a worldwide gross of more than $200 million at the box office. starred Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd. It also featured the return of franchise stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.
