You can't talk about the best Friends moments without mentioning the character of Richard Burke. Richard was played by acclaimed actor Tom Selleck, so along with a fabulous mustache, Selleck brought gravitas and humor to the handsome ophthalmologist.

For those who don't recall, Richard first shows up in season two of Friends when Monica and Phoebe cater an event at his house. Even though there is a 21-year age difference between the pair, Monica and Richard just can't fight the chemistry and end up dating, much to the chagrin of Monica's parents. The storyline is the set-up for all kinds of hilarity, my favorite being when Monica makes hundreds of jars of jam and chain-smokes cigars when the pair break up in season three. In a new interview with PEOPLE, Selleck opened up about what it was like to work on the set of Friends, with the publication confirming that he would return to the fan-favorite show.

“It was a great place to work,” the Golden Globe winner recalled. “The actors were grateful for the opportunity and they were all as good as you can get.”

Selleck admitted he was nervous to join the cast after he had a screen test with Courteney Cox, who played Monica. “I hadn’t done a three camera live show since Taxi,” he explained “It scared me a little. But that’s the price you pay for opportunity!" Apparently, the character was only supposed to appear in a few episodes, but Selleck was asked to stay on. “It just worked,” he said, reminiscing on days with the cast. “I thought it was great.”

Many fans know that a Friends reunion special is in the works, but has been delayed due to safety concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. Well, if we ever get to revisit the Central Perk crew for another time after that with a reboot, Selleck would be in. "If the opportunity came up, I'd do it again!," he told PEOPLE. Here's to hoping!
